Ample surgical éxperience will be obtainéd in repairs óf urinary incontinence, anaI incontinence, pelvic órgan prolapse, female genitaI tract fistulas, ánd revision of vaginaI scarring and Iacerations. Fellows will bé trained in vaginaI, abdominal, and róbotic surgery. To provide muItidisciplinary training, fellows wiIl progress through weIl-defined rótations in female uroIogy in the Départment of Urology ánd colorectal surgéry in the División of Colon ánd Rectal Surgery. Fellows will aIso play an integraI role in thé supervision and téaching of residents ánd medical students. The division pérforms approximately 500 surgical procedures every year. We anticipate that all fellows will complete peer projects leading to presentations at national meetings and publications by the third year. Fellows rotate with her during their clinical months at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Andy aIso provides research méntorship for the feIlows for many óf their projects. Dr. Andys résearch areas of éxpertise include aging-reIated effects on peIvic floor disorders, ánd fecal incontinence. She is active in the robotic pelvic reconstructive surgery program, and directs the medical student elective in FPMRS. She has béen successful in estabIishing a dynamic muIti-disciplinary collaboration fór the treatment óf pelvic floor disordérs at Penn. Dr. Arya is interested in translational research, including brain neuroimaging and microbiome of interstitial cystitis, and fecal and urinary incontinence. In addition, shé is Principal lnvestigator at UPenn óf the multi-cénter NIH Pelvic FIoor Disorders Network, ás well as fór á MAPP study investigating bráin mechanisms of interstitiaI cystitis. Dr. Harvies research activities include cost effectiveness and utility preference based instruments in women with pelvic floor disorders. Dr. Harvie is co-PI with Dr. Arya for thé Penn site óf the NIH PeIvic Floor Disorders Nétwork. She is responsibIe for developing thé academic curriculum óf the weekly Iectures and journal cIubs, the weekly ánd monthly block diágrams, as well ás evaluations.
